Little League’s very recent ban on thumb guards is not only unreasonable but also a major step backward in player safety. Thumb guards have been available for over 40 years, providing essential hand protection, and have always been permitted for play at all levels across all leagues.

To the detriment of many youth players, Little League has made the misguided decision to ban this crucial safety gear, which plays a vital role in protecting a player’s hand from the impact of bat vibration. The league is misrepresenting thumb guards by claiming they alter the bat—this is simply not true.. Thumb guards, especially the ThumbPRO design, are specifically engineered to safeguard young athletes’ hands, helping to reduce the risk of harm and helping to ensure a safer experience at bat.
