The opening day of this year's MLB season saw an increase in viewership of 42%! Millions are enjoying America's pastime this year. If you're as excited about baseball as we are this summer, why not start working on your swing with the help of some baseball batting aids to get ready for this season and every season? These devices can help improve your batting without necessarily needing a pitcher or wide-open spaces. Check out our list of great batting aids to find out more.
1. Swingrails
A Swingrail is a two-piece device; one piece straps onto your bat, and the other fits around your bicep. The idea of the Swingrail is to keep your bat close to you during your swing until the optimal moment of release.
You can use a Swingrail on its own, with a tee, or with soft tosses during hitting training. It helps build the correct muscle memory into your swings.
2. Tee and Net
A batting tee is perfect for young beginners to learn how to bat because many small children struggle to hit a moving ball. However, seasoned batters can still benefit from using a tee. Many hitting drills that improve swing technique require a batting tee.
Tees are great on their own, but for the sake of wooden walls and windows, it is better to couple them with a net for baseball training. Aiming for the net is also a great way to work on accuracy.
3. One-Handed Bats
Batting with one hand at a time can help you find weaknesses in each arm you wouldn't have found while batting with both hands. With these, you can also perform one-handed hitting drills that correct those mistakes and improve your swing technique overall. However, most of the muscle memory drills for one-handed bats also require a tee.
4. Heavy Bats
The last three aids help with technique; a heavy bat will help improve your strength during baseball training. Using a heavy bat with a tee, soft tosses, or even just playing around will make you stronger and more efficient when you step up to swing with a regular bat.
You can also do special grip and forearm strengthening drills with a heavy bat. Exercises like the heavy bat snap are helpful for anyone looking to become a stronger baseball player.
5. Thumb Guards
Thumb guards have two functions. The first is that they dampen the blow of the ball against the bat so that your hands don't feel as great a sting. The second is that they force the bat to stay in the part of the hand that allows for the best swing.
A baseball player using a thumb guard can train or play for longer and will have better technique, which is why many pros use thumb guards. Around half of all MLB players use them.
