Our team recently caught up with pro baseball player, Shayne Fontana, as he headed off to spring training in Florida. Fontana plays for the Baltimore Orioles organization. We wanted to know about his aspirations and his background in the sport from the time he was a youth player to now. Meet Shayne Fontana
Part of the esteemed Baltimore Orioles organization, Fontana’s journey to the big leagues has been forged with hard work, focused diligence, and dedication to the sport since the time he was young. As a talented baseball professional, Fontana has a powerful swing and a keen eye for the ball.
Hailing from New Jersey, he grew up playing many sports, but baseball came to the fore for him as his true love and where he strove to dedicate his time and energy. Baseball season runs long and after a while, when he had to make a choice between football, basketball, or baseball, he knew the path he wanted to follow and hasn't looked back since.
From Dreaming to Draft Day
Shayne Fontana’s story isn't just about his prowess on the field; it's a tale of dedication. Fresh out of high school, he continued on his path, and followed his dream of becoming a pro baseball player while at college, where he was scouted and then drafted-- a pivotal event that turned his childhood dream into a tangible reality. He recalls the draft-day phone call as one of the most exhilarating moments of his life, a signal that his hard work was paying off in a way that few get to experience.
From that day on as a pro baseball player, it's been a whirlwind of workouts, batting practice, travel, and intense training sessions. The routines no longer feel like just practice; they are the very fabric of his existence, threads of dedication tightly woven into every muscle fiber of his being.
This high level of athletic commitment comes with a huge demand on the body, a demand which requires hours of working out daily, concentrating on eating a healthy diet, and making sure to have the best equipment, including protective gear like the ThumbPRO thumb guard. When every swing determines the outcome of games, series, and entire seasons, protecting each component of his powerhouse performance is paramount to Fontana's success.

When Fontana isn't leveling up his game, he's also about spreading the love of the game. During his time this past summer playing ball in Puerto Rico, he had the heartwarming opportunity to inspire a young fan about the joys of playing pro baseball. And, he gifted this young fan one of his thumb guards. The young boy's joy in meeting this kind pro ball player and, also, by Fontana’s gracious sharing, discovered a thumb guard for the first time as well. Fontana told us that although the thumb guard was too big for the young player, he was happy to have something that could help him avoid the awful feeling of bat sting.
